The first step to take when hoping to adopt a Poodle from any of the PCARF members listed on the website is to complete and return an application. Each group has their own application which they will send upon request. It is important to completely fill out the application. Incomplete applications may cause the application to go to the bottom of the pile for follow up in the future. The questions we ask on the application are there for a reason; to help us make the best match possible for you and your family and the Poodle needing a new home.

We often get inquiries from people that want a certain color dog or a specific age or sex. The more criteria you place on your search for a rescued dog, the longer you may have to wait. Adopting a rescued dog is a bit like searching for an antique; they are what they are when you find them.

Potential adopters often ask if dogs in rescue are housetrained or if they are obedience trained. The short answer to these questions is “no.” The longer answer is that even if the dogs were once upon a time perfectly housetrained and obedience trained, they have been through quite a lot in recent times and may have forgotten everything they once knew and those things will need to be relearned. House manners usually do return, but everyone - human AND canine - will need to work on the process.

Adopters will often ask about adopting a dog to train for service work. We do not place adopted dogs as service animals. The reason being: what if the dog fails at its job? Does the dog then get rehomed again?
